Celebrity Beyond vs Ascent 2026: Edge-Class Compared

Celebrity's third and fourth Edge-class ships compared on dining, suites, entertainment, and which one delivers the better premium cruise experience.
By Caden Sorenson Data from official Celebrity & Celebrity pages

Quick verdict

Overall: Celebrity Ascent wins

Celebrity Ascent is the newest Edge-class ship and benefits from targeted refinements: a redesigned Grand Plaza with the Martini Bar repositioned as a full-circle centerpiece, a refreshed Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud, and the debut of AquaClass SkySuites with wellness-focused amenities. Beyond is an excellent ship, but Ascent is Beyond plus one more year of polish. The difference is small enough that a better sailing date or cabin price on Beyond should override it.

  • Celebrity Beyond: travelers who want the Edge-class experience with more established reviews and operational polish, cruisers who find a better itinerary or cabin price on Beyond
  • Celebrity Ascent: wellness-focused travelers drawn to the new AquaClass SkySuites, couples who prioritize the redesigned Grand Plaza social hub, anyone who wants the newest Edge-class ship

The gap between Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Ascent is the smallest in this entire comparison series. Same tonnage. Same length. Same cabin square footage. Same restaurant count. Same Magic Carpet. Same Eden. Same Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud. If you blindfolded someone and teleported them between these two ships, they might not notice for hours.

The differences that do exist are worth knowing about, because they reveal where Celebrity thinks the Edge class can still improve, and one of them (the AquaClass SkySuites) might be exactly the cabin you are looking for.

At a glance

The spec table is nearly a mirror. Both ships measure 141,420 GT with identical cabin size ranges. The comparison here is about refinement, not redesign.

Where Celebrity Beyond stands out

Operational maturity. Beyond has been sailing since April 2022, giving it over three years of crew training, service flow optimization, and guest feedback integration. First sailings on any new ship have rough edges. Beyond’s edges have been smoothed.

Wider itinerary selection. With more time in service, Beyond has sailed more diverse itineraries and has a larger library of passenger reviews for specific routes. If you are researching a particular Mediterranean or Caribbean sailing, Beyond likely has more data available.

It was the “stretch” ship. Beyond was the first Edge-class ship built 66 feet longer and one deck taller than Edge and Apex. That redesign created a more spacious Resort Deck and larger Rooftop Garden. Ascent shares these dimensions, but Beyond was the original vision.

Where Celebrity Ascent stands out

Redesigned Grand Plaza. Celebrity repositioned the Martini Bar to the center of the Grand Plaza as a full-circle bar, making the atrium a livelier social hub. On Beyond, the Martini Bar sits to one side. The Ascent layout creates better sight lines and a more natural gathering point.

Refreshed Le Voyage. Daniel Boulud’s specialty restaurant got new chandeliers, plush banquette seating, and a private dining room on Ascent. The food is the same Daniel Boulud French cuisine, but the atmosphere is a step up. This matters because Le Voyage is already one of the best restaurants at sea, and the refresh makes the experience feel even more exclusive.

AquaClass SkySuites. This is Ascent’s genuinely new contribution. These suites combine AquaClass wellness perks (unlimited spa access, wellness programming, access to the Blu restaurant) with full suite amenities (floor-to-ceiling ocean views, large private terraces). If you value wellness and luxury in the same stateroom, this category does not exist on Beyond.

It is the newest. In a class where the ships are this similar, newest matters for fit and finish. Carpets, upholstery, hardware, and tech systems are all at their freshest on the most recently delivered ship.

Where they are identical

Magic Carpet cantilevered platform. Eden (three-deck restaurant/lounge at the stern). Infinite Veranda staterooms (23% larger than Solstice-class). Rooftop Garden Grill. Fine Cut Steakhouse. 32 food and beverage venues. The Retreat (suite-class private sundeck and lounge). SEA Thermal Suite. Camp at Sea kids’ program. Celebrity’s Always Included pricing (drinks, Wi-Fi, tips bundled into the fare).

The bottom line

Celebrity Ascent is the better ship by a small margin. The Grand Plaza redesign, Le Voyage refresh, and AquaClass SkySuites represent genuine improvements over Beyond’s template. If dates and pricing are comparable, pick Ascent.

Celebrity Beyond is the better pick when it offers a meaningfully better itinerary, sailing date, or cabin price. The experience is 95% identical, and a $500 saving on Beyond buys a Le Voyage dinner and a spa treatment that close the remaining 5%.

Frequently asked questions

Is Celebrity Ascent the same ship as Celebrity Beyond?
Same class, same tonnage (141,420 GT), same length (1,073 ft), and same cabin layouts. Ascent is the fourth Edge-class ship (December 2023) and Beyond is the third (April 2022). Ascent has targeted refinements to public spaces and a new suite category, but the core experience is nearly identical.
What is different about Celebrity Ascent?
Three key changes: the Grand Plaza was enlarged with the Martini Bar repositioned as a full-circle bar in the center. Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud was refreshed with new chandeliers, banquette seating, and a private dining room. New AquaClass SkySuites offer floor-to-ceiling ocean views, large terraces, and wellness amenities.
Do both ships have the Magic Carpet?
Yes. The cantilevered Magic Carpet platform on the starboard side is on all Edge-class ships. It moves between decks and hosts Dinner on the Edge, one of the most unique dining experiences at sea.
Which ship has better restaurants?
Both have 32 food and beverage venues, including Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud, Eden, Fine Cut Steakhouse, and Rooftop Garden Grill. The restaurant lineup is virtually identical. Ascent's Le Voyage refresh adds a slightly more refined atmosphere, but the menu is the same.
Are Celebrity Edge-class ships good for couples?
Yes. Celebrity's Edge class is widely considered the best premium cruise ship class for couples and adult travelers. The design is sophisticated, the Infinite Veranda staterooms are spacious, the dining is exceptional (Daniel Boulud's Le Voyage, Eden), and the atmosphere is more refined than mainstream lines.
What are AquaClass SkySuites?
A new suite category exclusive to Celebrity Ascent that combines AquaClass wellness perks (unlimited spa access, wellness programming, Blu restaurant) with suite-level staterooms featuring floor-to-ceiling ocean views and large private terraces. They are positioned as a wellness-luxury hybrid that Beyond does not offer.
